Participants of the III international competition Gaudir 2021

Topic: "What cannot be"

  1. Irina Anderson - NOMINANT
    The Swan Princess
    Polymer clay
    54 cm

The inspiration for my work was the painting of my beloved artist Mikhail Vrubel "The Swan Princess". The fairytale character fits the theme of the competition. Could it be that a picture painted on a flat canvas is embodied in a three-dimensional doll-sculptural image? The task, in fact, is impossible ... Therefore, I did not set myself the goal of copying, but creating something close to the original and recognizable with elements of some improvisation.
Vrubel depicts the moment a girl turns into a swan. It is this state of some embarrassment, and sadness, and mystery, and the expectation of a miracle, and the very process of transformation that I wanted to convey in my work.

  1. Evgeniya Zaretskaya - WINNER IN THE COMPOSITION NOMINATION
    Born by the earth
    Porcelain, papier-mâché
    75 cm

Those born by the earth are drawn to the sun, drink water, rise to the sky. A fragile balance of all the elements on strong roots that go deep into the earth. Every moment is fragile and short, but every moment is filled with light.

  1. Svetlana Brusova - SEMI-FINALIST
    Mask
Skeleton, movable doll, head on a joint, Ladoll
    91 cm

He endures pain and humiliation
He smiles through the cry
He changes masks for you
Alas, my spectator, you are the executioner.

And he will light a cigarette
Think about life again
A tear of pain will roll
That life has passed - all the masks are gone.
